Meet Kelly Hunt & Allicen Librera
Why they are running
Kelly Hunt and Allicen Librera first met when their kids were in preschool together. They became fast friends, bonding over their shared hopes for their kids and the community. They worked together frequently as volunteers through the Bedwell Home and School Association. Seeing an opportunity to continue to volunteer together, they decided to run for the Somerset Hills School District Board of Education in the 2025 election. Their shared vision of continuing and, where possible, improving the educational outcomes of the students in our district compelled them to take this step together. If elected, they would be the only sitting members with kids at Bedwell Elementary, a school which deserves active representation on the Board of Education.

About Allicen:
My name is Allicen Librera and I am running for one of the three available seats on the BoE. As a mother of four, I have experienced all 3 schools in the district and will be able to offer relevant information from a parent’s perspective while also advocating for what is best for our students on the whole.
My oldest two children, JJ and Julia, are recent BHS graduates. My daughter, Lucy, is a current student at BMS and my son, Jake, is entering 3rd grade at Bedwell. I have always enjoyed the opportunity to be involved as a parent volunteer at both Bedwell and more recently, BMS. In addition to chairing numerous events, I have served as Co-VP of Events on Bedwell’s HSA board for two years and I am currently in my second term as co-President of Bedwell’s HSA. I have also enjoyed volunteering in the Bernardsville community as a coach of Girls on the Run for my oldest daughter and have coached tee ball for all of my children. I have found my volunteer roles to not only be rewarding but a wonderful way to connect with parents and kids in our community. I hope this experience of running for and hopefully serving on the BoE will result in the same.
Our family has faced numerous obstacles that have pushed me to become a proponent for continuing to improve our district's special education program. I recognize how lucky we are to have the resources and ability to support our family's needs and are committed to championing for every family walking a similar path. It would be an honor to continue this work as a member of the Board of Education.
In addition to being a mother and a dedicated volunteer, I am also a medical transcriptionist for a veterinarian sonography group.

About Kelly:
My name is Kelly Hunt and I am running for one of the three open positions on the Somerset Hills BoE. I am entering my seventh year as a parent at SHSD and believe I can bring a unique perspective to the board as a parent of younger students.
I am a proud mom of two sons. Stanley is entering 4th grade at Bedwell and Arthur will be a 6th grader at BMS. Through the years, it has brought me great joy to volunteer at Bedwell and now BMS. I started out as a homeroom parent, which led me to the Bedwell HSA executive board where I served one two year term as co-vice president of events and then a two year term as co-president. Most recently, I have taken on the role of co-president of events at BMS. The time and effort devoted to these positions has been rewarding in many ways, most namely in the relationships I have been able to build with other parents, their families, our amazing educators and staff. That, and my desire for all students to receive the very best education that I believe our district can provide, are what compel me to run for the board.
During my time as co-president, I oversaw several new initiatives, including the implementation of volunteer guidelines and reinstating Spanish language HSA meetings. I was also proud to have helped implement several teacher grants, including providing a 3D printer for technology, outfitting the art room, and buying brain bins for the third grade classrooms. My involvement in these initiatives and my volunteer work in general has imparted upon me a deep appreciation for the hard work that goes on in our district and for the importance of public education for our kids and for our community.
While I believe my volunteer work is my experience most pertinent to serving on the board, I also have varied career experience focused on administrative and project work. I was an executive assistant in a union's benefit funds office and in a financial services office, and have organized and conducted technology training at an investment bank. Prior to that, I was a hairdresser. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Art History and attended a trade school for cosmetology.

I hope to bring an optimistic vision, strong work ethic, and focus to one of the three open seats on the board. Our children's education depends on us investing our energy in them.
